Laser Hair Removal: What Nobody Actually Tells You

#Serenity MedSpa in Colorado Springs, CO

What It Is (Without the Marketing)

Laser hair removal is one of those treatments that has been around long enough that most people have a vague idea of what it is — and a lot of misconceptions about how it works, how many sessions it takes, and whether it’s actually permanent. We’re going to skip the promotional version and give you the honest one, because we think you’ll actually be more likely to book when you know what you’re getting into.

The Areas We Treat

We use the DioLaze XL at Serenity MedSpa, which is one of the most powerful and effective diode laser platforms available. It works by targeting the melanin (pigment) in the hair follicle and delivering enough heat to damage the follicle’s ability to produce hair. It’s most effective on hair that is in the active growth phase, which is why multiple sessions are required — not every follicle is active at the same time. We treat the full body: underarms, legs, bikini and Brazilian, face, back, chest, stomach, arms, and neck.

What It Actually Feels Like

We’ll be honest: laser hair removal is not painless. The DioLaze has a built-in cooling system that makes it more comfortable than older platforms, and most clients describe it as a snapping or stinging sensation — noticeable but very tolerable. Areas with coarser, denser hair are more intense. Sessions on a small area like the underarms take a few minutes. Full legs take about 30-45 minutes. Most clients find the discomfort very manageable once they know what to expect.

The Realistic Timeline

Plan for 6-8 sessions spaced 4-8 weeks apart for most body areas. Hormonal areas like the face and bikini line may require more. After completing your series, most clients experience 80-90% permanent hair reduction — meaning the remaining hair is significantly finer and lighter. Annual maintenance sessions keep results fresh for clients who want maximum long-term reduction. It is not 100% permanent for everyone, and we’ll tell you that upfront.

The Verdict

Is it worth it? For the vast majority of our clients: absolutely. The math usually works in laser’s favor once you account for the lifetime cost of razors, waxing, and the time spent on hair removal. Beyond the economics, clients consistently tell us that never thinking about shaving certain areas again is a quality-of-life improvement they didn’t fully anticipate until they experienced it. Book a consultation and we’ll assess your hair type, skin tone, and give you an honest projection of your results.
